New Orleans Cesspools and Mosquitoes Breeding Now What

In New Orleans the cleanup is moving forward and still there are thousands of swimming pools full of murky scum infested waters. Which have stuff growing in them and are now perfect areas for breeding Mosquitoes and disease. Some have said we need robotic fish and UUV or underwater unmanned vehicles to help us clean up Lake Ponchartrain, as much of the mucky water was pumped back into the lake.

Indeed that makes sense but what about all the free-standing water which remains there?.This topic recently came up in an online think tank when one member Swift from Las Vegas States; "The fish idea for New Orleans was a great one, but it still doesn't mean the mosquitoes and other insects won't be horrible. It will take years for them to get a handle on this issue alone and that's if there isn't any more activity in the region. I doubt if New Orleans will be storm free this year either--then what happens.

When they show footage on TV, I wish they would state how old it is, as it seems there is an enormous amount of junk lying around.".The issues at New Orleans are not just in the free-standing polluted waters and with Mosquitoes, much of the ground water is now so toxic that one has to wonder if it would be safe for anyone to move back in now? Should New Orleans become a SuperFund EPA site? Some think so, but we are talking another 25 Billion over the next five years to deal with it and that is only if they do not get hit again with any flooding there. Consider all this in 2006, as the Army Corp of Engineers and EPA is.
